Welcome back to the Steckley/Awoz show 2010
Australia and now Mexico…pronounced meHico ;)
Hello hello to one and all. First and for most i would like to apologize for the lengthily time it's been since my last article. I ran into some problems in Australia in regards to being able to write my blogs due to my computer and i now have a new one. Someone has been kind enough to steal my electronic bag with all goodies here in mexico so i won't be able to post video's until after this tour unless i somehow figure something out.
Anyways, Australia was a blast. The weather this season was not as hot as it typically is which was great for someone like me who sweats at even the word "sun" even though i could never dream of living without it. Aleks and i worked hard throughout the 4 weeks there but came up a little short on results. She played some tough matches and had some bad luck with her draws always drawing top girls playing their best. Besides the tennis, we took in some sights and sounds that down under had to offer. We played with kangaroos and swam with the sharks, literally. We were given an opportunity to have a private tour of one of the zoo's one early morning and made our way to the National aquarium where we met Jaws. Now that i've met him, i would like to clear up all the misunderstood rumours on how he is an overly aggressive individual, he loves to read, take long strolls along the beach and cuddle, yup, cuddle.
After Australia, Aleks and i headed home for a few weeks. She played her Fed cup tie, which she kicked butt and Canada won, and we are currently now in Monterrey mexico eating Taco's like they are going out of style. Actually to be perfectly honest, i have yet to eat one, however i have eaten about 600 Avocado's. Rich in essential fats ;) Mmmmmmmm. The city of Monterrey is absolutely beautiful. It's very modern and wealthy and scenic to say the least. The city is surrounded by Huge Mountains that take your breath away. Hiking trails that go on for days and views that are out of this world. Even though the city is extremely wealthy, the crime is still high due to the drug trafficking taking place at the american border only a couple hours away.
Aleks won her first round here against Laura Granville of USA but fell next round to Cornet from france. They played feature match at 7 under the lights. Aleks felt uncomfortable as she rarely has to play night matches. She did her best but came up a bit short in this match. It didn't get her down as we have been training very hard to get ready for the upcoming big events in the u.s and using this as a warm up event for some matches. We have been putting in some quality time on and off court and i have you know she is playing very well and excited to do well. We had a great prep week here and are both ready to tear it up at Indian wells which is our next event in Palm springs.
